Roadshow in Vietnam - to several collaborations in resource recovery

A week-long roadshow in Vietnam with the theme of Waste to Energy - From Vision to Business Opportunities " attracted nearly 250 participants. Now three cities in Vietnam want to start collaboration with the University of Borås, and Borås City.

Through an initiative of the Waste Recovery in Båras - international partnership, the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA).
ILCD, CENTEC Vietnam, and the Swedish Embassy in Vietnam was a tour with workshops in five different cities in Vietnam carried out to explain how municipalities, universities, research institutions and industry can work together both nationally and internationally. Participants from the city management of the visited cities, universities and industry attended and the interest was very high.

From Borås Professor Mohammad Taherzadeh from the University of Borås, and Olle Engström, Project Manager, Waste Recovery - International Partnership in Borås participated. Also the Swedish ambassador , Staffan Herrström, and Tomas Herzman from CENTEC Vietnam participated.
The visit to Vietnam has now led to that three of the visited cities have expressed interest in enter into partnership with the University of Borås, and Borås city through Waste Recovery in Boras - International Partnership.
For one city, Da Nang, the work for a collaboration has come a little further. There, they are already expecting the Borås city to prepare a collaborative statement and look forward to getting started, both in collaboration with the Borås city and the University of Borås.
- Ida Nang is a city where they for many years have focused on environmental issues and where the town council has shown great interest in these issues, says Prof. Mohammad Taherzadeh.
The province of Binh Dinh and Ho Chi Minh City are also in the starting position to initiate a cooperation.

The envolved stakeholders are now looking for funding opportunities to develop cooperation and projects. Universities in Vietnam can apply for funding support from the Swedish embassy to initiate contacts with the University of Borås. Cities in Vietnam can also apply for financial aid for cooperation with Borås city by the International Center for Local Democracy (ICLD). CENTEC in Vietnam serves as the extended arm for cooperation between business in Borås, and businesses in Vietnam.
At the University of Borås an application to projects in resource recovery in the Mekong region through EEP Mekong RCU is currently being prepared.
