Proposal for renewed appointment of the Vice-Chancellor
After consultation with the Chairperson of the Governing Board of the University of Borås, Roland Andersson, Björn Brorström is positive to continuing as Vice-Chancellor of the university when his current term ends 31 July 2017.
Bjorn Brorström feels that he has strong support in the organisation and wants to follow through with the changes underway at the university; therefore, he is willing to serve as Vice-Chancellor for a further year and a half. The announcement means that the Chairperson of the Governing Board of the University of Borås will suggest to the board that a hearing process be carried out with Björn Brorström. It is also suggested to use a simplified hearing process as Björn Brorstöm is already known by the university’s representatives and has an established relationship with the Student Union.
Björn Brorström’s current appointment as Vice-Chancellor began 1 August 2011 and ends 31 July 2017. The appointment to Vice-Chancellor can be renewed upon a government determination. That a hearing should occur with instructors, other employees, and students is regulated by the Higher Education Ordinance.
If the board decides to conduct a hearing with Björn Brorström, it will occur during the last quarter of 2016 in order to be completed by the board’s December meeting. At the December meeting, a decision about the proposal to the government to renew Björn Brorström’s appointment will be taken. The government is expected to make a determination in this question at the earliest during the spring of 2017.
”This can seem a like a complicated process but it is the normal procedure in the appointment of Vice-Chancellors,” concludes Roland Andersson.
