Sustainable development

Striving for a sustainable society – ecologically, socially and economically – is part of the strategic profile of the University of Borås. Through the vision of becoming a sustainable university the University of Borås is committed to  sustainable development aims to integrate sustainable development into all activities of the institution. 

For the university, it is important to preserve ideals and to work to provide conditions for students, and to create education and research environments, to achieve the qualities needed to meet the great challenges we face when building a long-term sustainable development in society.

The university has an implemented certified Environmental Management System (ISO 14001) that includes the whole university.

The goals for the period of 2014-2016 includes the following areas: 

  • Sustainable development in education and research  
  • Carbon dioxide emissions from travels and energy usage
  • Efficient use of resources
  • Collaboration with students and society within the area of sustainable development
  • Social responsibility
  • Level of knowledge in sustainable development among the employees

Education and research are identified to be the most important factors to sustainable societal development.
