Immigrant Academy (IA) at Högskolan i Borås started in 2002 as a collaborative project with other actors in society. The operation was run as a project for five years. In 2006, IA was evaluated by the Agency of Higher Education and then became part of the university's regular activities and supply.

Based on Higher Education Act (SFS 2008: 1101), we have chosen to turn to both people with a foreign university degree and those with non-concluded foreign academic degree. Newcomers often have been forced to discontinue their education in their home country due to war or political unrest. In Borås we then turn then to graduates who have completed their studies, with degrees, but also to the students who had to interrupt their education in their home country.
