Help us nominate the next honorary doctor
As an employee at the University of Borås, you may nominate persons for appointment as honorary doctors, at least six months before the next planned conferment ceremony , in other words no later than November 4.
Honorary doctors are awarded in connection with the university’s professorial inauguration and doctoral degree conferment ceremony. Next ceremony is Friday 4 May 2018.
The boards decide on the appointment together with the Vice-Chancellor. Being awarded a honorary doctorate is an expression of the university’s appreciation of an individual’s very prominent efforts for the university’s activities.
How do I do this?
Leave your proposal and justification of no more than 1,500 words to the secretary of the board in question, in a sealed envelope. The nominee should not be informed.
Honorary doctor – how it works
Being awarded honorary doctor means that the nominee should be deemed to have contributed with the following:
- Significant occupational performance in one of the third-cycle subject areas where the university holds degree-awarding powers, and/or
- Significant efforts related to research, education, or other activities carried out within the university (and where the person has or has had a direct or indirect connection with the university)
It is not customary to appoint someone to honorary doctor at the same university as they graduated.
More information about criteria, nomination process, preparation, etc. can be found in the steering document, “Handläggningsordning avseende utnämning av hedersdoktor vid Högskolan i Borås”, dnr 820-14 (in Swedish only).
