Textiles and Fashion

Courses in Fashion Design, Textile Design, Textile Engineering, and Textile Management are offered to exchange students at the University of Borås. All courses related to Textiles and Fashion are conducted at the famous Swedish School of Textiles, a part of University of Borås. The top of the line facilities and labs offer an exceptional combination of skills and tools in the field of fashion and textile design and textile technology.

The academic year consists of four periods (P1-4) and each semester is divided into two periods. 30 ECTS correspond to a semester of full time studies and each period consist of 15 ECTS. See Important Dates for the academic calendar of your semester.

Bachelor's level autumn 2018

This is the first semester of the 2018-2019 academic calendar. All new exchange students should attend the Orientation Days 30-31 August.

Fashion Design

These courses provide a total of 31,5 ECTS on Bachelor's level.

* Exchange students accepted to the course package shall take part in the introduction course, which takes place 27-30 August, the week before the official start of the semester.

These courses are for second-year students and higher and require good sewing and pattern-making skills. A portfolio application is required. The portfolio should include photographs of sewn and constructed collections and garments as well as illustrations. The portfolio should be in PDF and have a maximum of 10 pages.

Students should also upload a CV with a brief presentation of your experience related to textiles and fashion, such as internships, previous studies etc. The CV should be in a PDF of maximum 1 page.

Two exchange students will be accepted.

Textile Design

These courses provide a total of 31,5 ECTS on Bachelor's level.

These courses are for second-year students and higher. A portfolio is required that shows your work, both independently and through your educational programme. We would also like you to show what you wish to do when you come to the Swedish School of Textiles and what materials you would like to use. Please include sketches showing your theoretical knowledge. The portfolio should be in PDF and have a maximum of 10 pages. 

Students should also upload a CV with a brief presentation of your experience related to textiles and fashion, such as internships, previous studies etc. The CV should be in a PDF of maximum 1 page.

Two exchange students will be accepted.

Textile Engineering

These courses provide a total of 30 ECTS on Bachelor's level. This course package is suitable for students with previous studies of textile materials.

Textile Management

These courses provide a total of 30 ECTS on Bachelor's level. This course package is suitable for students in Texile Management, Business Administration or equivalent.

Master's level autumn 2018

Fashion and Textile Design

These courses provide a total of 31,5 ECTS on Master's level.

  • Dye, after treatment and print technique - introduction course (PDF), 1,5 ECTS *
  • Design Project - Specialisation Project (PDF), 7.5 ECTS, P1
  • Aesthetic Theory - Design Methods, Advanced Level (PDF), 7.5 ECTS, P1
  • Elective courses in textile techniques, 15 ECTS (knitting, printing or weaving), P2
  •  

    The elective courses of 15 ECTS are chosen on place.

    * Exchange students accepted to the course package shall take part in the introduction course, which takes place 28-30 August, the week before the official start of the semester.

    Entry requirements are a Bachelor's degree in design of 180 ECTS credits, or the equivalent, and a capacity for experimental artistic work and critical reflection assessed through a portfolio. A CV and verified knowledge of the English language is also required. The CV should be in a PDF of maximum 1 page with a brief presentation of your experience related to textiles and fashion, such as internships, previous studies etc.

    The portfolio that is required should contain a selection of three design projects, the results should be presented together with relevant documentation of the process. The portfolio must demonstrate the your competence and skills within the field of design. The artistic, experimental, technical and critical reflections skills should, as far as possible, be able to be assessed through the visual material. The portfolio should be in PDF.

    Two exchange students will be accepted, one with specialisation in Fashion Design and one with specialisation in Textile Design.

    Textile Engineering

    These courses provide a total of 30 ECTS on Master's level.

    Textile Management

    These courses provide a total of 30 ECTS on Master's level.

    * For students with an academic background within the textile area.

    ** For students with an academic background within business administration or equivalent.

    Bachelor's level spring 2018

    This is the second semester of the 2017-2018 academic calendar. All new exchange students should attend the Orientation Days 11-12 January.
