Anna Persson

I am a Doctoral Candidate in smart textiles and interaction design at the Swedish School of Textiles where I also teach in related subjects. I am also responsible for arranging the Design Seminars, a series of lectures introducing contemporary research and professionally work in the field of design.

As computation and new materials are entering the world of textiles, our view on the textile material is challenged. Designing interactive textiles means communicating new expressional forms through the textile material and that the areas of textile design and interaction design start to merge. My aim is to contribute to the exploration of expressional possibilities for interactive knitted textiles with focus on linking seeing and feeling, the visual and tactile. I am also interested in the relation between expressions affected by user interaction versus expressions related to inherent material/constructions of interactive textile design. In June 2009 I presented my Licentiate thesis, “Knitted circuits for visual and tactile interactive expressions”.
