When can I apply for the programme?

The Master’s programme in Fashion and Textile Design, 120 ECTS, starts at the beginning of the autumn term each year. Applications are made at studera.nu. Read more about how to apply here. 

What are the admission requirements?

A Bachelor’s degree in Design, 180 credits, or equivalent, documented knowledge of English and an application portfolio.

I do not have a bachelor’s degree in fashion or textile design. Am I still eligible?

Yes, you might still be eligible, required is a Bachelors degree in Design, 180 credits, or equivalent. Your application will be evaluated on your portfolio, your application project and your CV.

What should the application portfolio contain?

Your application portfolio should contain a portfolio of previous work, for example projects in fashion, textile and artistry; an application project and your CV. The entire application portfolio must be merged into a single document, have your name as follows firstname.lastname.pdf and uploaded to this site.

What is an application project?

In the application project, specialisation (textile design or fashion design) should be noted, together with a description of what you wish to focus on during your work within the frame of the design project courses of the programme.

What is a CV?

Your CV contains information about your education, courses taken, jobs, traineeships, projects and other experience that may have enhanced your skills set.

I am taking a course that I will finish later this spring. How do I handle that?

Students who do not hold the required degree, but are registered for the last semester term of a programme leading to such a degree, may be accepted by some higher education institutions (HEIs). 

An official document stating that they are likely to be awarded the degree by the start of the Swedish programme must be sent in with the application. The document must be issued through and certified by a representative of the Academic Registrar's Office, the Examinations Office or equivalent of the institution. Certification from other staff members, such as faculty or college staff members, will not be accepted.

What does the selection process look like?

A review group looks at your application portfolio as well as your verified merits. A number of applicants are then called for interviews.

You will be contacted through e-mail by studera.nu about whether you have been called for an interview or not. When the interviews are done, a number of students will be admitted into the programme. Selections will published at studera.nu on the 24th of March. You will receive correspondence from studera.nu when the admission process is complete.

What does the interview look like?

Interviews take place either at the University of Borås or over the phone. You will be asked questions about the material you submit as well as your experiences. The approximate length of an interview varies.

How do I respond to my admission decision?

The easiest way of doing so is to access ‘Your pages’ at studera.nu and reply ‘yes.’ In order to do that you have to be a confirmed user.

How much is the education?

For Swedish and other EU students it is free of charge. For students from outside the EU, it is 270 000 SEK annually plus an application fee of 900 SEK. Read more here about which students are obliged to pay the fee.

Are there scholarships for this programme?

The University of Borås can offer tuition fee waivers. More details here. The Swedish Institute (SI) offers a range of scholarships. More details at their website.
