Alcohol – Alkohol
You will find that alcoholic beverages only can be bought at the Systembolaget. To be able to purchase at the Systembolaget you need to be at least 20 years of age. Be aware that drinking and driving is strictly prohibited.
Borås
The city of your choice, located in the southwest of Sweden.
Culture – Kultur
You will find that Borås is a city with a great variety of culture and beautiful nature surroundings often with special low fares for students.
Dates – Datum
The most common way of writing dates is year, month, day, i.e. 2010-05-14 or 100514, meaning May 14, 2010.
Driving – Bilkörning
Sweden, like most European countries, has right-hand traffic. In Sweden you have to be 18 years old and have a valid driver’s licence.
Drugs – Droger
All types of narcotics are prohibited in Sweden. There are strong regulations against using and selling any kind of illegal drug.
E-mail system for students – E-post för studenter
At the University of Borås you will get an e-mail-address in Google Mail when you are registered in your first course. Your address consists of your username followed by @student.hb.se (ex. username S102345 will be S102345@student.hb.se)

Electricity – Elektricitet
The main electricity type in Sweden is 220 volts and 50 cycles (Hz) and you may therefore need a transformer or an adapter for your electrical appliances.
Fika - Coffee break
In Sweden you will often hear: "Let's go for fika!" It means: Go on a break and have tea, coffee and maybe a cookie or sandwich. When you have lectures there will be short breaks now and then and you will see the Swedish students rush away to get their coffee and bring it back to the lecture room. Join them! "Fika" is a part of the social network in Sweden and you will enjoy your stay here more if you join your Swedish friends for "fika".
Flights – Flyg
Many low-price fares are available both on domestic and international flights. As a student you can be given discount if you have a valid student identity card.
The International Student Committee
(ISC) – Internationella Student Kommittén
The ISC is a student run and organized group who plan and organize activities for new international students. They take care of new international students arriving in Borås. They introduce international students to Swedish culture and arrange trips and other social activities.

KronoX is the schedule system of University of Borås.
Library – Bibliotek
At the library you will probably spend an hour or two during your stay at the School of Business and Informatics. The library is usually open between 08:00-20:00, except for weekends.
My Account – Mitt konto
In My Account you can view results of exams, registrations, etc. My Account can only be used by active and registered students or staff at the University of Borås. Please log in with your student username or signature. If you have forgotten your username please contact the Student Centre
Outdoor life – Friluftsliv
The Swedish law of public access to private land gives you the opportunity to freely roam the countryside as long as you show respect for the wildlife. You are entitled to walk, jog, picnic or cycle anywhere in Sweden.
PINGPONG
PING PONG is the Learning Management System used for web-based education at the University of Borås.
You may access PING PONG once you have registered to your course/program and created your user account. You then use your network login and password to log in to PING PONG.

Pharmacies – Apotek
In Sweden, pharmacies handle prescription drugs as well as some hygiene products.

Water – Vatten
The tap water is often of very good quality and safe to drink.
