Rules for the facilities

Below you'll find what rules to apply the facilities of the Swedish Scool of Textiles.

The Sewing Lab, T353

The electricity in the sewing lab is turned on, normally 08:00-17:00 weekdays. Students who would like to work other times must turn the electricity on by swiping their access card in the card slot. The card slot is located on the inside of the door to the sewing lab. A valid access card will turn on the electricity for one hour (60 minutes).

Students in the Fashion Design program, the Design Technician program, the Basic Fashion course, the Design Master program and the course in Pattern Construction have valid access cards automatically. Other students can apply for temporary access if they need to work in the sew lab. Talk to the course teacher or the technician in the sew lab.

Machines or equipment that breaks down
If any machines or equipment breaks down, students must report to technician through these steps:

  • Mark the machine or the equipment with a big, paper sign stating “Out of order"?
  • Write a note with the following information and leave it for the technician;
    • A short description of what has happened
    • Your name
    • Class
    • Phone number and e-mail address

This responsibility to report problems is not to place blame or punish students, but to quickly and easily be able to prevent and repair machines or equipment that are out of order.

Responsibilities

The student who unlocks the electricity with his/her access card is responsible for the order during the coming hour and responsible for:

  • There is always water in the steam boiler, especially at the end of the hour.
  • There are no unauthorized people in the sewing lab.

These responsibilities are passed on to the next student who starts another hour by swiping the access card in the card slot.

The last student to swipe the card is responsible for:

  • Placing chairs (stools) on top of the tables.
  • Litter, paper and other material shall be disposed of properly.
  • All windows and doors are closed.
  • The light is turned off, also in the cutting room.
  • Equipment is returned to the proper place.

Other rules that are valid during the daytime are valid after 17:00 and weekends.

Consequences and card slot log

The card slot registers the cards that are used at other time than 08:00-17:00 weekdays to enable the school to see who has been in the sewing lab if the regulations are not obeyed. If the regulations are not obeyed the log may be controlled. The last student, who swiped their card, will be investigated and may be expelled from the sewing lab. The log is saved for a maximum of two years. It is not necessary to swipe a card in the card slot when the electricity is turned on, normally 08:00-17:00 weekdays, and therefore no card will be logged during this time.

The Gallery T216

Our gallery on level 2 is widely used for both exhibitions and education. It is important that the premises are restored correctly when you have used the room.

Here are the instructions and map of how the gallery should look like when you leave the room to the next person booked..

The workroom, T260

The workroom is open to students for individual work when there is no scheduled class or other booking. It is possible to do both theoretical and/or practical work in the workroom. Painting and the use of spray paint is only allowed in the special painting room when the extra ventilation is turned on. Work with fire, heat and/or smoke is only allowed in the special flow cabinet.

The two nearby locked material labs are not open, except for scheduled class time.

Students who wish to use in the workroom must swipe their access card in the card slot. The card slot is located on the outside of the door to the lecture hall. All students who have a valid access card have access to the workroom.

Equipment/ material left in the workroom must be clearly marked with name and phone number. Equipment/material cannot be stored/or left in the workroom more than two weeks. Equipment/ material left for more than two weeks will be removed and disposed of properly.

Responsibilities

Student who work in the workroom is responsible for ensuring that:

  • No dangerous activities are practiced in wrong way, i.e. no painting outside the painting room and no fire, heat and/or smoke outside the special flow cabinet.
  • There are no unauthorized people in the workroom.
  • That litter, paper, color/paint and other material shall be disposed of properly.
  • All windows and doors are closed.
  • The light is turned off when finished.
  • Equipment is returned to the proper place.

The painting room

  • Extra ventilation must always be used while painting. The extra ventilation is turned on by a switch on the wall.
  • The door to the painting room must be closed during painting.
  • Cover paper must be used to protect the floor and tables from paint/color. Color or paint drops must be wiped up immediately.

The special flow cabinet

  • Extra ventilation must be turned on before any work by the switch on the wall.
  • The flow cabinet shall be empty when work is finished. Any used material shall be disposed of properly.

Consequences and card slot log

The card slot registers the cards that are used at other time than 08:00-17:00 weekdays to enable the school to see who has been in the workroom if the regulations are not obeyed. If the regulations are not obeyed the log may be controlled. The last student, who swiped their card, will be investigated and may be expelled from the workroom. The log is saved for a maximum of two years. It is not necessary to swipe a card in the card slot when the electricity is turned on, normally 08:00-17:00 weekdays, and therefore no card will be logged during this time. Students who destroy/break anything and/or set off the fire alarm in the workroom due to work with paint, heat, fire or smoke that has not been carried out correctly, may be responsible for reparation costs.

The textile printing workshop, T717

Students who wish to work independently in the textile-printing workshop must fulfil one condition, namely that they have received approval to work at the level in question. This approval is based on basic theoretical/practical courses that confer on the students the right to work independently on different levels.

  • Students are only allowed to work with assignments for which there is specific equipment. This is to say doing dyeing/washing in the wash- and test-dyeing equipment and printing on the print tables.
  • Time-tabled courses and courses offering resource time, always have precedence.
  • Dyes and chemicals that are not obtained through the School (THS) are not allowed if prior approval has not been given by the teacher in charge.
  • Students working in the printing workshop are obliged to be familiar with, and follow, all the handling- and safety regulations regarding those products that they are working with.
  • Students working in the printing workshop are required to wear clothes and personal safety gear corresponding to the work they are performing.
  • Screens and squeeqees-frames must be kept in their proper places.
  • Own dyes and private equipment must only be kept in designated places.
  • In order that it is possible at all times to use the printing workshop for individual projects, it is necessary that everyone clears up and tidies the printing tables - and other equipment - directly after finishing work, and puts aside screens-frames and other used material in their designated places.
  • For safety reasons, it is not permitted to work alone in the printing workshop.
  • Students should not work in the printing workshop after 24.00 hours.

Consequences and card slot log

The card slot registers the cards that are used at other time than when the textile printing workshop is manned, normally 08:00-17:00 weekdays, to enable the school to see who has been in the printing workshop at other times if the regulations are not obeyed. If the regulations are not obeyed the log may be controlled. The last student, who swiped their card, will be investigated and may be expelled from the textile printing workshop. The log is saved for a maximum of two years. It is not necessary to swipe a card in the card slot when the workshop is manned, normally 08:00-17:00 weekdays, and therefore no card will be logged during this time.
