About the Swedish School of Textiles

At the Swedish School of Textiles the creativity of art is combined with the ingenuity of technology. The degree programmes cover the entire fields of textiles, from design through manufacturing to management and technology. The Swedish School of Textiles is the only one of its kind in Sweden and one among a few institutions of higher education in the world that has, within its facilities, a full-scale textile-manufacturing environment. The school has workshops and laboratories for teaching, research and developmental work. Every student attending the design programmes, has his or her own workstation, and access to studios and computer rooms.

At the Swedish School of Textiles about 2800 students studies every year and there are about 110 employees.

The research at the school covers the entire spectra, from the textiles of the Antiquity to the innovative textiles of the future. Research is carried out at the Center of Textile Research (CTF).

Borås, and its surrounding region, is, and has been for a long time, the center for manufacturing of clothing and textiles in Sweden and the school maintains en extensive network of contacts with companies in the region. This gives students a unique opportunity to meet people from the industry and from valuable relations.

The Swedish School of Textiles co-operates with several leading universities and colleges world-wide. The school has participated in a series of national and international projects, the most celebrated being the reproduction of textile materials and garments worn by Tutankhamun some 3400 years ago.
