Research
Library and Information Science Research at The Swedish School of Library and Information Science The University College of Borås & the University of Gothenburg
The department of Library and Information Science in Borås is the biggest department in the field in Sweden. Among the staff are four professors, 17 senior lecturers, some 30 junior lecturers and 22 doctoral students.
Research is organized in three main groups, striving for excellence within a row of exciting sub-areas. The doctoral education, which is also the biggest in Sweden in this research field, has close connections with both the undergraduate education and the research groups of the department.
International co-operation is important in research. The postgraduate education is pursued in close collaboration with the nordic-baltic research institute Norslis and we also participate in Swedish research schools in related areas. Both research and doctoral education is characterized by frequent participation in international conferences and close contacts with external partners for co-operation in the professional field.
Focusing information issues
”The discipline of Library and Information Science takes as a starting point problems related to the dissemination of information or culture which is stored in some kind of document. Within Library and Information Science, the (whole) information process, libraries and other institutions with similar functions are studied. The discipline has connections with several other disciplines within the social sciences, humanistic studies and technology.” (Description of the research field by Forskningsrådsnämnden, 1989)
