Master's Programme in Fashion and Textile Design
Next programme start: Autumn 2012
The master's programme is a two year programme with specialization in fashion or textile design. It aims at enhancing and deepening the student's ability as a textile or fashion designer with emphasis on artistic, technical, theoretical, and reflective ability. The programme offers deepened practice based studies in the form of projects that the student develops progressively, from an application project to final degree project.
Critical reflection is embedded in courses that relate historical design analysis and design theory in a wide range of applications; from projects that focus on individual work to projects on conjunction with companies, institutes, and organisations. This way, individual artistic ability is deepened, as well as technical knowledge – this with the aim of training designers to become excellent professionals and/or for doctoral studies in practice based design research.
Starting from a bachelor’s degree within the field of design, students choose to specialise in textile or fashion design with projects applied to given areas within these disciplines. To respective specialisation specific tasks are applied, based on relevant discourses.
A general goal for the programme is developing a holistic and critical view of the profession in relation to specific challenges and on relation to a global textile and fashion industry. The programme is aiming at preparing the student for a practice in constant change by providing them with tools for them to use in contributing to this change. A holistic and artistic starting point thus becomes a question of uniting aesthetics, ethics, and economy in an applicable form that can function as a basis for critical reflection on products and production.
The master programme is directed towards deepening with regards to development and reflection. This is grounded in the student shifting focus from the individual design project to a design programme that is exemplified and deepened in various projects.
