Recorded literature
Who is allowed to borrow?
Students with reading and writing difficulties are able to borrow course literature in alternative formats from TPB (The Swedish Library of Talking Books and Braille). If you are in need of course literature in alternative formats you are welcome to contact the Dyslexia Counsellor Emma Kjellén or the Coordinator for students with functional disabilities Anita Lindahl.
What are the rules?
The university library will provide you with a loan-id. With a loan-id you will be able to download the books you need directly from the web based TPB catalogue. The loan period is six months.
If your reading and writing disabilities are documented you can receive a special student user-id. With a student user-id you may borrow mandatory course literature whether it is already recorded or has to be produced. You may also download the software EasyReader for free and you may borrow a talking book player during your study period.
Literature that requires new recordings will take six-twelve weeks. You should contact the university library as soon as possible.
Media Formats
The course literature is produced as talking books, e-text books in Textview format, braille and enlarged text.
The talking books are distributed in DAISY format. DAISY is a set of hardware and software tools to record, store, transfer, and read digital audio books. To be able to listen to talking books you must download a software from TPB. You could also listen to the book in an ordinary mp3-player.
To read e-text books in your PC you will need Textview, a browser for electronic text, with a license number and an adaption like speech synthesizer or braille display.
Talking book player
If you have a student user-id you may borrow a DAISY player from TPB. The loan period is six months with possibilities to extend the loan for as long as the studies last. The DAISY player must be returned as a package paid for by the student.
Rules to follow when borrowing a DAISY player:
- The loan period for the player is 6 months (renew your loan in the TPB catalogue)
- The player must be handled with care
- If you are not using the DAISY player during the study period, return it immediately to TPB
- You are responsible of the player until it is returned to TPB
