The School of Business & IT at the University of Borås was established during the 1980´s and today the School hosts a variety of undergraduate and graduate programs within the fields of Accounting, Marketing, Organization and Management, Business Informatics, Computer and Systems Science, Realtor Education, Event Management, Public Administration and Information Architecture. Research within our school is in accordance with the main areas of the educations that we offer.
The School enrolls approximately 1 500 - 2 000 students and has a staff of over 70 teachers/researchers/administrators. The School of Business & IT is now in an expansive and innovative phase, meeting the new challenges of a society in constant change and the needs of higher professional education. The profile of our University is a professions orientation. Our motto is Science and Profession.
The main idea is that the work life of an advanced society needs professionals of advanced knowledge, based on both science and experiential skills and knowing. Our ambition is to synthesize the practical expertise of the advanced professional with scientific knowledge. The contradiction between theory and practice is thereby challenged. This ambition calls for deep collaboration between practitioners and academics. Thus we involve practitioners from the different professions that we educate for, in our educational programs as well as in research.
The overall motto of our school is Trade and Services development. The main academic disciplines are Business Administration and IT. These two disciplines interact in education and research as well as with other disciplines and in collaboration with the professional world.
Within the school there are also two separate units, Centre of Entrepreneurship and Business Design and InnovationLab. The mission of the Centre of Entrepreneurship and Business Design is to encourage students all over the university to develop new companies based on research at the university or on ideas from industry. This is done through activitities within established programs all over the university as well as in own courses. The mission of InnovationLab is to develop IT-systems from the findings from our research and aims at contributing to good and valid IT-usage influenced by new forms of organizations and new technique.
