There are two restaurants inside the university and a café in the same building as the university library. The university is also surrounded with several small restaurants.
Change of addresses, phone numbers etc.
When changing your address, phone number or name it is important to notify the Administration office of School of Engineering. This information has to be correct in our student data base for several reasons, e.g. to find your data, add information like results, to keep the connection to “My Account” intact, and you may miss important information sent out from us. You can change address in “My Account”.
Computer account
You need a computer account to get access to the student computers at School of Engineering. You get such to the Windows/Novell computers at the Computer service office. But first you must be registered to the courses you are going to study during the term when they are given.
Before you can get the account you have to sign an agreement with rules that have to be followed. Remember, the account is personal and as holder of the account you are responsible for everything done on it. Never borrow it to anybody else!
School of Engineering has Unix workstations. You get an account to this at a separate introduction class for students at School of Engineering.
Computer rooms
The students have access to the computer rooms also when there is no class. To get access to the rooms you need a pass card, the very same that you use for the entrance doors. The card reader registers the students that visit the computer rooms. Remember: never leave a computer unlocked if you are logged on! You are not allowed to bring and connect your own computer equipment. Access to the computer rooms is only for the students at School of Engineering, you are not allowed to bring other people into them.
Computer support
If you have problems with your computer account or password, questions about software programmes, CD recorder scanner etc. contact the IT-support at the IT- office, B-house floor 7.
For questions about CITRIX, contact the support at School of Engineering, room D 608 (Thomas Södergren).
Copying services
The students can use copying machines at the university library or at the Student union. Copying of thesis works or group works can be done at the StudentCentre (Floor 3, B-house). Students have to pay themselves unless they hand in a requisition form attested by a senior officer at School of Engineering.
Course Evaluation
After each course the students should make an evaluation of the course. The evaluation results are used to improve the courses.
Course level
- The level of the course is marked a follows:
- Basic level: 01-30 credits
- Advanced level (BSc): 31-60 credits
- Advanced level (MSc): 61 credits and higher
Credits
All study programmes are counted in credits (ECTS credits for MSc study programmes). 1.5 Credits/ECTS corresponds to 1 week’s full time studies. A term is 30 credits/ECTS and a study year is 60 credits/ECTS.
University studies differ in many ways from studies at e.g. upper secondary school. There is more liberty but also great more responsibility. Most times you study two courses at the same time (in the same study period). This makes it easier to focus on the subjects.
Director/head of study program
Each study programme has a director/head of the study program. If you have any questions about your study programme and the contents you should contact the director of your study program. This applies also for any changes of your studies for any kind of reasons.
Disabled/dysfunctions
As a student you have the right to get support/aid. If you need this, contact Student services.
Documentation/LADOK
LADOK is a data based system for documentation of registration, study results, and personal data about the students at universities in Sweden. Registered students have access to the information on My Account on the web.
Eligible courses
Eligible courses may be chosen to either broaden or deepen the studies - if the study programme allows it. The director of your study program provides information about the courses.
Examination
All the courses have some kind of examination. In general the examinations are done as written examinations but there are also oral and written presentations. For courses with written examinations there are also 2 re-examinations each year.
Note: You must register to examination in due time before the examination takes place (i.e. 7 days in advance). See special folder about examination, placed outside the administration office of School of Engineering.
Exchange studies
All students can apply for ERASMUS exchange studies. A selection among the applications will be made. Number of exchange places on our partner universities is limited. There are also a number of exchange agreements with universities outside of EU (non scholarship exchange programs).
Evaluation
After each course the students make an evaluation of the course. The evaluation results are used to improve the courses.
Full time studies
The study programmes at School of Engineering are don on full time, That is, you study 30 credits/ECTS each term. This corresponds to 40 hours work per week.
Grading system
The courses or part of courses are graded as below:
- Courses on BSc study programmes (taught in Swedish): 5, 4, 3, Fail. In some cases only Fail or Pass will be used.
- Courses on MSc study programmes and the BSc in Industrial Engineering - International Business Engineering (taught in English): A-F where F is Fail. Some courses here only have the grades Fail or Pass.
Illness
If you get sick for a longer time you should contact the course teacher, the director of studies of your study programme and the administration office, room D804. If it is a matter of a longer time where you miss whole or large part of courses you must discuss the continuation with the director of the study programme beforehand. An individual study plan should then be settled by the director of studies.
If you do not contact the above mentioned it might affect the possibilities to extend your student residence permit. It will also affect group constellations on the courses. Remember that many courses are only given once a year. Communication with the director of the study program is essential.
Individual study plan
Many courses are based on studies on previous courses. If you do not follow the normal study pace you need to contact the director of your study program to discuss if you need an individual study plan (note that the Swedish migration board demands that international students take a certain amount of credits each study term to get the student residence permit extended. please consult the Swedish migration board for their rules. Also note that the courses are given during certain periods and most of them are given only once a year.
