Research Seminar 2007
Our hope is that our Research seminars will be the obvious meeting place for companies and others interested in research and development within the textile field. Presentation of resent research, discussion about problems, ideas about new research projects and new research programmes, techniques, management. Doctoral students Jonas Larsson and Joel Peterson presents their research
Innovations in Fashion Logistics and Retailing - SmartDressing Rooms.
Apparently no one is safe from the "Home approvement"-effect and it has now spread to the fashion world where more and more companies offer their customers to, by themselves or with help, design their own clothes. Much of this development is thanks to the Internet and it is also there you find most of the "do it yourself"-offers. NikeID.com, Tailorstore and 121 Time are three of many in the line of websites where you can design shoes, shirts or watches. The phenomena has been described as "the long tail of the economy". The project Knit on Demand is based on a multiple choice system where the customer easy can design their own sweater and work with several alternatives. These systems can take various shapes and in this research seminar there will be a short presentation of which systems are available and how they work.

SMART TEXTILES - what kind of products will we see in the future (if any).
Smart textile research and development has been going on for about 10 years. The main application areas seem to be medical, protective wear, sports, military and fun. So far we have seen only a few commercial applications. But there is great belief among the science circles that the next 5 to 10 years will bring something concrete to us.
We should, however, make a
difference between smart textiles and wearable technology. Smart textiles are textile based solutions, which still look like and feel like textiles, but with intelligent properties. In wearable technology solutions we put electronic components into shirt pockets or inside seams and use the textile
material as platform for the product.
