Rector's Welcome
Welcome to the University of Borås, a young and original seat of learning with high ambitions to offer and conduct qualitative education and research. The concept we work with can be summarised in the motto ‘Science for the professions’.
Education and research rest firmly on a scientific basis, and we are careful to ensure that all education is research related. At the same time, education and research are characterised by high societal relevance in the sense that research results must be applicable and education focused on work life and professions. It is essential that research results come to practical use and contribute to success in business and the public sector. A quality criterium is that our graduates are employable in professions that are closely related to their education.
Education and research were designed so as to contribute to high quality in business and public administration. This has been achieved through development of various models and methods, and providing knowledge of how to apply them. High quality is also achieved through questioning and critically examining various kinds of development and phenomena. Our work is characterised by openness to new ideas and original ways of interpreting development and conditions. We want our students to be well-educated when they leave school, and also well-versed, with an ability to see their own field and their own profession from a variety of perspectives. Abilities like that provide a basis for life-long learning. That means that time spend as a student becomes enriching in many different ways.
As rector of the University of Borås I feel it is important to preserve our ideals and work to provide conditions for students and co-workers to set up creative education and research environments and thereby achieve the qualities that are needed to meet the great challenges we face when building long-term sustainable development in society.
