Textile and Fashion Cluster Launched during Almedalen Week

Next week it’s time for this year’s Almedalen week on Gotland. In the web of politicians, business leaders and organizations, University of Borås is there to launch the new textile cluster established in the region of Borås called Cluster 7, Textile and Fashion Center.

The textile design student Linnéa Nilsson’s PROJECT 1609 will be exhibited during Almedalen week as an example of the fusion between textile and metal that can be achieved in the unique machine park at the Swedish School of Textiles.

In the autumn of 2013, Simonsland, the new part of the city growing in central Borås receives its first tenants. In the former factory premises, among others the Swedish School of Textiles will form the hub of the western Swedish textile cluster.

"Cluster 7 Textile and Fashion Center demonstrates our strength in the textile field and shows that Borås is nationally leading and as a region, internationally competitive. There is a great potential in all its parts; inspiring and leading fashion design, new business models for textile and fashion companies, and advanced material science and development", Rector Björn Brorström says.

Two breakfast seminars are offered by the city of Borås, Marketplace Borås and BoråsBorås AB, where the origin and implication of the textile cluster will be presented and discussed.

The research center Smart Textiles, University of Borås, will be present during the entire week. At Donner’s Place, Smart Textiles and the Finnish steel company Ruukki/Rautaruukki Oy will show a material knitted with metal yarn from the unique machine park at the Swedish School of Textiles.
