By studying on this unique master programme in Resource Recovery, which is given by the Swedish Centre for Resource Recovery, your ability to analyze and resolve problems related to disposing, processing and recycling of residuals into useful products will be developed.
Such a useful and salable product can be an item to the automotive industry made from biological material which can easily be recycled. It could be biogas or ethanol to replace oil and petrol. Or electricity, heating and cooling produced sustainably by thermal treatment of waste. Why not fish feed in addition to solve a waste problem and also reduce the depletion of the oceans? Regardless of whether you will be working as a researcher or work in business and management and you will be a global community builder, with knowledge and skills to take on challenges in areas even not directly related to resource recovery.

The first semester courses are designed to increase your intertechnical expertise in the area and give you an overview of the possibilities and of the problems about resource recovery. Apart from purely technical issues also social aspects will be considered as the introduction of technical solutions must have an acceptance in society in order to function. At worst, they may in some parts of the world and even pose a threat to people's livelihood.

In semester two, you choose to specialize in any of the areas energy, polymer engineering or industrial biotechnology. This semester the elements of laboratory work will increase while larger projects are introduced and where more complex issues are handled. Computational modelling is also included as an important element.

- The Energy specialization deepens toward thermal energy recovery, i.e. to produce electricity and heat but also cooling and vehicle fuel by various thermal processes.

- The specialization in Polymer Technology gives you the knowledge of materials development and methods to facilitate sustainable recycling of polymeric materials.

- Industrial biotechnology is focused on development of bio energy and materials, i.e. processing waste and other waste products into biofuels with biological methods and new materials and products.

In year two, a thesis project covering a full academic year will be carried out. This gives you the possibility to immerse yourself into a subject area of your interest. This project will be carried out individually. If you do not do your work in an industry or at a foreign university, you will be placed into one of our research groups. The thesis is an important part of your development and will increase your ability to take on future skilled work.
