Research on water absorption of recycled concrete

Knowledge of water absorption of the aggregate is critical when it comes to optimizing the mixing water content in the concrete and workabilty.

The standard pycnometer method for determining water absorption is difficult to apply on fine flake aggregates like recycled concrete aggregates. Thus there is a need for alternative methods for water absorption for reliable and reproducible results with relevant laboratory equipment. The execution of the water absorption of concrete aggregates is followed up by tests on concrete workability and compressive strength.
