Regarding the novel coronavirus: The University of Borås has extended yellow level until 8 November. Yellow level means that university operations are to continue but that physical contact should be minimised as much as possible. The university has moved over to online instruction as far as possible. Stay updated.

Publisher agreements

The University of Borås has so-called transformative agreements with publishers that make it free for researchers at to publish Open Access in select journals.

The transformative agreements in Sweden are negotiated through the National Library through a consortium called Bibsam the express purpose of advancing the national Open Access development. The agreements the University of Borås has joined means that the publishers are paid a yearly fee to lower or remove the publication fees (article processing charges or Open Access fees) when researchers choose to publish Open Access in some or all of their journals. The National Library maintains a list of all current Bibsam agreements here.

These are the agreements that enable open publication to no or reduced costs:

American Chemical Society (2020-2022)

If the corresponding author is active at the University of Borås or one of the other institutions that are part of the Bibsam deal, there are no APC charges for publication in  ACS 60 journals. The three-year agreement starts February 2020.

Read a press release about the agreement on the ACS website.

Elsevier (2020-2022)

If the corresponding author is active at the University of Borås or one of the other institutions that are part of the Bibsam deal, there are no APC charges for publication in Elsevier's over 2000 journals. The three-year agreement starts January 1 2020.

Read a press release about the agreement on the National Library's website.

IOP (2020)

The University Library pays for all publication charges, which means publication is free for the author. The Library then receives a discount on next year’s publication charges. The current agreement is through the end of 2020.

For more information, please see IOP’s webpage.

Mark Allen Healthcare

Authors at the University of Borås may publish with MAH at no cost by using a token at the time of payment. Please include the 2020 code BORAS2020 as a token, or publication will not be free.

SAGE Premier (2020-2022)

If the corresponding author is active at the University of Borås or one of the other institutions that are part of the Bibsam deal, there are no APC charges for publication in 900+ hybrid journals for articles accepted for publication after 2020-01-01.

There is a 20% discount in the 150+ pure Gold Open Access journal.

See a list of eligible journals here:
SAGE Premier Title List 2020

In most cases authors who publish with SAGE will automatically be asked to use the SAGE Open Access Portal (SOAP) to process the publication. In those cases where authors are publishing in fully open SAGE journals not currently in SOAP, authors must use the code ”BIBSAM 2020" in the ”discount code” field in RightsLink Author Portal. Certain journals don't use RightsLink. In those cases the authors have to contact apcqueries@Publisherpub.co.uk and ask for the discount. This will be the case until the middle of 2020 when all journals will be included in SOAP.

Read a press release on the publisher's website.

Springer Nature, Compact & Fully Open (2019-2021)

If the corresponding author is active at the University of Borås or one of the other institutions that are part of the Bibsam deal, there are no APC charges for publication in hybrid journals (through the Springer Compact deal) and selected open access publications (through the Springer Fully Open deal).

Find a list of journals included in these deals on Springer Nature's website, which also includes instructions for authors.

Taylor & Francis (2018-2020)

No publication charges for corresponding authors at the University of Borås (or other institutions that are part of the agreement) when publishing Open Access in hybrid journals. The agreement covers around 1450 articles from all consortium members for the duration of 2018, so the free publications are available on a first come, first serve basis. The current agreement is valid through the end of 2020.

For more information, see Taylor & Francis' page on Open Select

Wiley (2020-2022)

If the corresponding author is active at the University of Borås or one of the other institutions that are part of the Bibsam deal, there are no APC charges for publication in Wiley's over 1500 journals. The three-year agreement starts January 1 2020.

Read about how the agreement works on Wiley's webpages.
