Erasmus Mundus Joint Doctoral

The program is called SMDTex - Sustainable Management and Design for Textiles and is coordinated by ENSAIT (Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts et Industries Textiles) in France. The University of Borås is a major partner in this program along with three more universities in the consortium: Technical University of Iasi in Romania, Politecnico di Torino in Italy and Soochow University in China. The associate partners include one association of textile universities (AUTEX) and five industrial companies supporting all activities of the doctorate program (i.e. Bureau Veritas CODDE in France, ASTRICO NE in Romania, Lindex, Nelly in Sweden and Hongdou Group in China.

The EMJD meeting was attended by over 25 delegates from the partner universities in France, Italy, Romania and China. The European Commission Officer responsible for the program was also present to evaluate the progress. The past two annual meeting (in 2012 and 2013) were held at ENSAIT, France.

The EMJD program started in 2013 with the first intake of 8 doctoral students. The aim is to create a vast pool of over 30 graduate doctorates within various themes of Sustainable Management and Design for Textiles by 2021. The program is expected to continue until 2021, with the last admission of PhD students in 2017. The program fits strategically into the research profile of the University of Borås within textile/fashion technology and management. It will also create unique collaboration with other European universities.
