Science Park Borås – a meeting place for innovation

“Science Park Borås links together the different elements of an ‘innovation system’. This is based on the training and research being carried out at the University of Borås and the research work done at SP. A science park provides a firmer base for our collaboration with other players,” says Björn Brorström, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Borås.

The University of Borås is the main sponsor of Science Park Borås, and other stakeholders are SP Technical Research Institute of Sweden and municipalities and businesses in Sjuhärad. The head of Science Park Borås is Erik Bresky:

“The purpose of a science park is to bring players together to tackle various challenges facing society. For us in Borås, these could be problems in health and social care or within resource recovery. Our role is to link the innovation system, with its researchers, project managers, sub-contractors and users, to support structures as an incubator and business development platform,” he says.

Facts about science parks
A science park provides a neutral development environment where players from business, universities an civil society can collaborate on major research and development projects. There are other science parks in the Västra Götaland region, in Gothenburg (Lindholmen, Johanneber and Sahlgrenska), Skövde (Gothia Science Park) and Trollhättan (Innovatum).

Science Park Borås is intended to help realise the vision of Västra Götaland of the ‘good life’ and a climate-neutral region. The objective is to attract research and development projects to the Borås region.

“I am convinced that investment in a science park will help to make innovation more effective and create added value. It will benefit the City of Borås and surrounding municipalities and businesses. Not to mention Västra Götaland region, the University of Borås, SP and other centres of expertise. At SP we are delighted to be part of this and to be promoting development,” says John Rune Nielsen, deputy MD of SP and chair of the Science Park Borås steering group.

The vice-chair of the steering group is Svante Stomberg, chief executive of the City of Borås.
