Scholarships

The scholarship application for the autumn 2026 semester is now closed and will open again in December for applications to the autumn 2027 semester.

The University of Borås offers a limited number of scholarships to highly qualified students who are required to pay tuition fees for studies commencing in the autumn semester. The scholarships are available to applicants who have applied to one or more of the master's programmes listed in the application information.

Scholarships are available only for master's programmes commencing in the autumn semester and are not offered for spring semester admissions, bachelor's programmes, or artistic programmes.

The scholarships offered by the University of Borås are intended to cover the tuition fee by approximately 75 percent, they are not designed to cover living costs. The payment is not made in monetary terms; instead the tuition fee will be reduced by the amount of the tuition fee waiver. 

The University’s criteria in awarding scholarships are good study records as well as qualifications that the University assesses to be in line with the University’s prioritised educational or research areas.

Assessment Criteria – Step 1

The assessment is based on the student’s grade point average from the qualification used as the basis for the assessment of eligibility corresponding to Basic Eligibility for Second-Cycle (Master’s Level) Studies (GBA).

Grades from the qualifying degree are converted into a normalized score. The assessment is based on the degree certificate and academic transcript. Score: 0–10 points.

In cases where the grade point average, CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average), or degree classification is not stated in the academic transcript, an overall evaluation of the applicant’s academic performance will be made. The grade assessment can award a maximum of 10 points.

To proceed to the next stage of the merit evaluation process, applicants must obtain a minimum of 5 points in the grade assessment component.

Assessment Criteria – Step 2

The assessment is based on the application form and supporting documentation submitted to substantiate the qualifications claimed by the applicant.

Motivation – Assessment of the applicant’s motivation for undertaking the programme to which the scholarship application pertains. A maximum of 2 points may be awarded.
Applicants who can demonstrate completion of an independent academic project (e.g., a degree project or thesis) conducted in English will be awarded 1 point.
Demonstrated engagement in activities related to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) will be awarded 1 point.
Qualifications beyond those required for Basic Eligibility for Second-Cycle Studies (GBA). Additional academic merits, such as a further degree, research experience, patents, or scholarly publications, will be awarded 1 point.

The maximum score available in this stage is 5 points.

The combined score from Step 1 and Step 2 constitutes the applicant’s overall merit score for ranking purposes. Where applicants are otherwise assessed as equally qualified, fulfilment of the requirement corresponding to English 7 will serve as the determining criterion.

For students already enrolled in a two year lasting programme at University of Borås, there is a possibility to apply for a scholarship which covers 75 percent of the tuition fees for the remaining two semesters of the programme.

If there are remaining funds after allocation to newly admitted fee-paying students, they can be allocated to scholarships for current students for year two. There is no guarantee that there will be funds to award scholarships for current students.

The application for scholarships for year two autumn 2027 opens in spring 2027.

Students who are granted a scholarship will be notified during spring 2027.

The  application for scholarships for 2027 opens 1 December 2026.

Pioneering Women in STEM

A fully funded scholarship aiming to empower women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics by enhancing their participation, leadership and performance.

The SI Scholarship Pioneering Women in STEM is an academic scholarship provided for full-time, one- or two-year, master’s studies in designated programmes in Sweden. The scholarship is open to female citizens from the eligible countries and applies to designated master’s programs starting in the autumn semester.
