The Swedish School of Library and Information Science is Sweden’s most extensive research environment in the subject and conducts research and education with a strong professional connection and international character. Our researchers take on the digital challenges of our time, mostly from the perspectives of the humanities and social sciences.

Our research within the area the Human Perspective in Care focuses on the patient and the caregiver. We focus also on patients’ loved ones, students of Caring Science and their learning, and the leadership and organisation of healthcare.

One of the prerequisites for developing a social and sustainable society is high quality education, from pre-school and primary school to vocational training and higher education. Educational Work deals with issues of relevance to society in general and education in particular. This area covers pedagogical, general didactic, and subject-based teaching and learning issues. The purpose is to contribute knowledge that better allows us to understand the obstacles that may hinder us from taking advantage of the full potential of education, as well as knowledge in how such obstacles may be overcome and how to develop alternative possibilities.

Our planet faces major climate threats; many of them because we do not take care of the earth’s resources. The Swedish Centre for Resource Recovery (SCRR) is a multidisciplinary research environment that conducts world-leading research, education, and innovation. We improve and develop new methods and processes for material recycling and for refining waste and residual products into energy, materials, feed, and food.

The area focuses on the subjects of design, textile technology and engineering, and textile management. We conduct research on customised clothing production, circular fashion, the relationship between the body, materials, and movement, as well as dyeing textiles without water, as examples. The researchers at the Swedish School of Textiles address many exciting societal challenges.

The digital learning platform Canvas, used by several Swedish universities and university colleges, has been subject to a data breach. It has now been confirmed that the University of Borås is one of the affected institutions.

A new research study at the University of Borås shows that mixed, coloured polyester waste can be given a homogen new colour without the use of either water or chemicals. By using supercritical carbon dioxide, dyes are redistributed between textiles rather than removed, which could help address one of the major barriers to circular textile recycling.

The Swedish School of Textiles and the United Nations are taking the next step in their collaboration to design and develop a new sustainable guide uniform collection for the UN headquarters in New York. The leading design school Central Saint Martins in London has now been invited to collaborate on the design of accessories together with students from the Swedish School of Textiles.
