THE SWEDISH SCHOOL OF TEXTILES

Gathered Garments
Year 2023

When it comes to creating textiles, there’s a lot to consider. From designing fabric for different purposes to the intersection of textile and fashion design, it’s a complex process. Luckily, new technological advancements are making it easier to create garments directly off the loom using weaving and smocking techniques.

The Gathered Garments project takes advantage of these techniques to create shapeable and adaptable garments that offer a variety of expressions and create

awareness about time through dressing. This project is significant because it questions the impact of fashion production and offers a new method for garment construction directly woven from the jacquard loom.

Additionally, expanding on the idea of «creating garments for bodies in constant change» could highlight the importance of sustainable and adaptable fashion. This aligns with larger movements towards reducing waste and promoting mindful consumption.

Overall, the Gathered Garments project raises important questions about the fashion and textile fields. By emphasizing the importance of reducing garment production and creating garments that can adapt to changing bodies, this project shows us the potential for a more sustainable and mindful fashion industry.
