Colour Theory

Description

In the course Colour Theory, we take a broad approach to the field of colour, both theoretically and practically. Colour plays a large role in the environments we spend time in: the public environment, the workplace, or the home. Colour helps us to express ourselves and communicate with others. With colour, you can, for example, create a certain atmosphere in an environment or product, reinforce messages and function, or express yourself artistically. Colour is everywhere and concerns us all. Our colour choices affect people both consciously and unconsciously.

Content

Colour Theory is an introductory course in which you work with colour in several different ways. Based on colour theory, the expression and properties of colours are studied, from the colour wheel to the colour system. The course's practical assignments train your ability to see, analyse, and use colour. You learn to distinguish the properties of colours in selected exercises using the NCS colour system. In parallel, you have painting assignments using gouache paint. In the second part of the course, you write a report on the field of colour. You learn about colour in theory and practice in order to be able to use colour in your own work, for example in industry, design, handicrafts, or artistic work.

This is a distance course built on independent study.

Colour Theory 2

Description

Colour Theory 2 is a course for those who already have a basic knowledge of colour in theory and practice from the course Colour Theory, AT1FÄ1. In this course, Colour Theory 2, you deepen your knowledge through practical colour assignments alternating with colour theory from different perspectives. Why do some colour combinations work better than others and how are we affected by colour and light in our environment? You analyse and reflect on your own and others' work with colour to further develop and deepen your ability to use colour.

Content

In the course, you work with colour theory in theory and practice. Among other things, this is based on Josef Alber's and Johannes Itten's exercises and theories in order to deepen your knowledge. Teaching and reading literature are alternated with practical colour assignments that are mainly painted using gouache paint. In the assignments, you apply the contrast effect of colours and colour harmonies, identify the expression of colours, describe colour based on spatiality and light, etc. for design purposes. You reflect on and analyse your own colour development in a portfolio that also reflects the work of others based on colour theory.
