This project explores the traditional Kurbits art style through the development of contemporary surface patterns for interiors. This is done through experimentation with the Kurbits tradition through the iterative exploration of form, scale and layering, resulting in the creation of multi-layered surface patterns that combine hand-painted and digital design techniques.
This project also demonstrates how cultural heritage can serve as a resource for contemporary textile design and highlights the potential of aesthetic sustainability as an approach to prolonging the relevance of traditional visual expressions.
