This project explores black metal culture and investigates how contemporary womenswear can be shaped by using the values and mindset of the subculture as a method. Values such as aggression, authenticity and nihilism have shaped both the design process and the treatment of garments.
The project is also influenced by observations from black metal festivals and the careless, imperfect ways garments are worn and altered within the scene. Through processes such as ripping, staining, damaging and forcing form, the collection explores tension between control and instability through material experimentation, layering, and altered surfaces.
