This project explores the potential of visual illusions in knitting through the development of a collection of textiles. By drawing inspiration from traditions found in Op Art, colour theory, and traditional knit design, the collection shows the possibilities of creating knitted textiles with a dynamic expression that changes according to viewing angle, distance, and interaction. The collection consists of three knitted textiles that explore different ways of creating illusions through: The Looming Tree with its Ottoman ribs, The Flowerbed with a links-links and plating technique, and lastly, the Insect Crawling with its false lace, never-ending pattern repetition.

The resulting textiles reveal hidden motifs, a colour shift, and a pattern that seamlessly swirls all around the object. By encouraging exploration through both sight and touch, the collection challenges static perceptions of knitted textiles and creates moments of surprise and discovery within interior spaces. The project demonstrates how knitting can be used as a medium for optical illusion and sensory experience, expanding the possibilities of contemporary textile design.
