The importance of publishing ethics to be highlighted at university-wide seminar

To give the university's researchers and doctoral students better conditions to be able to do just that, a university-wide seminar on publication ethics will be arranged on 25 February.

What is publishing ethics?

Jonas Gilbert, Library Director, explains, “Publication ethics encompasses the ethical principles and guidelines that govern responsible publishing and aims to maintain good research practice. This means, among other things, acting with honesty and openness, using correct references, being clear about authorship, ensuring a fair and objective review process, and distancing ourselves from frivolous or questionable journals and conferences.”

Why is good publishing ethics important? And who is responsible for ensuring that we maintain good ethics in research publications?

“The publishing world is complex and consists of many different actors. In order to maintain good quality and transparency in research, it is necessary that everyone, i.e. researchers, higher education institutions, publishers and funders, take responsibility in the publishing process and relate to publication ethics guidelines. By following good publishing ethics, such as being clear about authorship, methods, sources, use of (generative) AI, conflicts of interest, etc., you as a researcher can contribute to more open, reproducible and reliable research.”
