Training in Disaster Medical Preparedness and Civil Defence – Anaesthesia and Perioperative Care

Sweden’s capacity to respond to crises and war is influenced by the prevailing security situation and places high demands on the healthcare system. Healthcare services must be able to provide high‑quality and equitable care even in situations of resource shortages and high pressure, which makes disaster medical preparedness essential. Anaesthesia and perioperative care play a central role and are expected to deliver safe and accessible care under such circumstances. At the same time, research shows that nurses – with or without specialist training – are not sufficiently prepared for this. To address these challenges, this study aims to map the extent of training in disaster medical preparedness and civil defence within anaesthesia and perioperative care.

The study is directed at specialist nurses in perioperative and anaesthesia care.
