How to sort waste!

Plastic packaging

  • Plastic packaging, e.g. cottage cheese container, ketchup bottle, yogurt drink bottle
  • Biscuit packaging, candy and ice cream plastic wrappers
  • Soft plastic packaging e.g. plastic bags, bread bags
  • Plastic bottle caps
  • Styrofoam in small quantities

Residual waste

  • Wooden cutlery, ice cream sticks
  • Paper towels and napkins
  • Envelopes and sticky notes
  • Soft plastic that is not packaging, e.g. plastic binders

Paper packaging

  • Milk and yogurt paper packaging (sort the lid as plastic)
  • Disposable paper cups
  • Paper bags
  • Wrapping paper

Paper

  • Printer paper
  • Newspapers

Food waste

  • Food scraps
  • Fruit and vegetable scraps
  • Leftover bread
  • Tea bags
  • In cases of very wet waste, place some newspaper or used paper towel at the bottom.

Metal packaging

  • Tin cans
  • Foil packaging
  • Aluminum foil
  • Metal tubes, e.g. caviar (empty and with the cap on)
  • Metal lids
  • Bottle lids

Clear glass packaging

  • Non-depositable jars and bottles made of clear glass

Non-recyclable

  • Porcelain, e.g. plates, cups
  • Glass (not packaging), e.g. drinking glass
  • Before sorting – first think about whether whole items can be reused in another location.

Coloured glass packaging

  • Non-depositable jars and bottles made of coloured glass

Batteries

  • Batteries are hazardous waste and should be placed in designated containers or in the major recycling stations.
  • NOTE! Lithium-ion batteries must not be placed in the recycling bin for batteries. Lithium-ion batteries should, as a first choice, be turned in to the IT Service Desk.
