"This is part of our action plan regarding the university's sustainability efforts. However, reducing energy consumption is also mandated from above, partly as a forthcoming EU directive, and partly from the Swedish Energy Agency. The university has identified heating and cooling as significant sustainability aspects," explains Maria Westerlund, administrator for the university's sustainability work.

Patrik Andersson, Facilities Manager, also comments:

"Since 2022, the university has reduced energy consumption by 4 percent, but according to the directive, we must reduce it by an additional 1.9 percent annually between 2025 and 2030. However, the government wants us to start reducing energy consumption already."

This will be conducted in Sandgärdet as a test, because it is the building best suited for it. What will happen is that ventilation, cooling, and lighting will be reduced.

"Employees and others who have their workplaces in Sandgärdet will receive information before summer about where they can access other workplaces while Sandgärdet is a red zone," he says.

Preliminarily, H and L buildings will be closed from the first week of July until 1 August, M and N buildings will close when students finish for the summer, and J building will close when the library closes for the summer.
