Upon getting the news, she said, "I am extremely honoured and grateful! It means a lot to get this appreciation from students.”
What is the most fun thing about teaching our students?
"To be part of their development, to see them grow in knowledge and self-confidence – and that the students inspire me just as much in return!"
What does the prize mean to you?
"It's a confirmation that what I do matters. It motivates me to continue to engage in the way I do and develop my teaching.”
What advice do you have to share with your fellow teachers?
"I don't have a secret recipe for successful pedagogy, and I probably have a lot left to learn myself. What I strive for is to be responsive, as well as to engage and create a learning environment where students dare to ask questions and I give constructive feedback that both strengthens and challenges. However, you are never ‘done’ – there are always new ways to inspire, learn and develop together with the students. I hope that I can get a bit further on the road with this grant.”
Jury’s comments
"Ia is an educational and inspiring role model, especially for women in the IT industry. (student voice)
Together with the students, Ia Williamsson builds her teaching on active engagement. She inspires and encourages students to participate in their learning by exploring the content of the education together with them. In her interaction with the students, Ia finds a good balance between the professional and personal role. She connects the course literature with examples from real life and her own professional background in a way that broadens the perspectives and prepares for future professional life. Ia consistently returns to relevant research to motivate and explain the content of the educational programme."
