Construction starts on new campus entrance

The new entrance will include a vestibule with a rooftop terrace facing Akademiplatsen. At the same time, the interior refurbishment of Sandgärdet will continue, including a new service centre with a reception desk, new multifunctional spaces, and an internal balcony overlooking Vardagsrummet, the university's social and event space.

Vardagsrummet closes; the University Library remains open as usual

Construction of the reception desk will also begin on 14 September. Vardagsrummet will then be closed. Access to the University Library will be maintained throughout the refurbishment, and the library will remain open as usual.

The entrance facing Akademiplatsen and Vardagsrummet is expected to remain closed until May 2027.

Henrik Werner, Property Developer, is the project leader for the refurbishment.

How far have you progressed with the refurbishment so far?

“The Student Union has moved to B435 to free up space in J2523 ahead of the refurbishment. Tech Borås has moved from Oasen one floor up to N3, and the demolition work in J224 has been completed,” said Henrik Werner.

How are you working to minimise disruption during the refurbishment?

“Where possible, disruptive work is scheduled for times when there is less activity in the building, such as early mornings. This is a major project that will continue for a long period, so we will all be affected in different ways,” said Henrik Werner.

Is there anything particularly important for employees and students to keep in mind during the refurbishment?

“If you are travelling between Balder and Sandgärdet, the bridge between the buildings is a good alternative. If you are coming from outside, you should use the temporary main entrance on Olovsholmsgatan,” said Henrik Werner.

What do you see as the main benefits of the refurbishment?

“The benefits are that we are creating an efficient and functional service centre where Vardagsrummet becomes more like a living room, suitable for both everyday use and events. Another major improvement is the two new balconies that will be built, especially the external one with a view along Allégatan,” said Henrik Werner.

Construction traffic

During the construction period, there will be construction traffic on Järnvägsgatan, which means you will need to take extra care when moving around the area. The cycle and pedestrian path on Järnvägsgatan will be closed periodically from the railway crossing and past the university between week 38 and week 47, or mid-September to the last week in November.
