Research seminar: Polymer technology
Welcome to this lunch seminar on “Molecular engineering and reactive extrusion of circular biomeaterials” with lecturer Associate Professor Giada Lo Re at the Department of Industrial and Materials Science at Chalmers, Sweden and the Department of Civil and Industrial Engineering, Pisa University, Italy.
Giada Lo Re focuses her research interest on understanding processing-structure-properties relationships of sustainable polymers and nanocomposites at both molecular and nanoscale levels. Since 2007, her research centred on advancing Materials Science and Engineering by focusing on sustainable materials development to replace thermoplastics derived from oil. With interdisciplinary expertise in polymer chemistry and physics and extensive international collaborations, our work develops systematic approaches to bioplastics science and engineering and bridges the gap between industrial needs and materials science. Recent topics in her group involve reactive extrusion synthesis and depolymerization of plastics, and enzymes/microbes as biocatalysts for the metabolic engineering of bioplastics. The aim is to control the plastic end-of-life, incl. mechanical and chemical recycling, and biodegradation. Reactive extrusion methods, process engineering, and a focus on biomass and agricultural waste and by-products support the scalability and industrial uptake of her research.
She has been awarded for the best national PhD Thesis in Chemical Engineering and Materials Science (2012, AIMAT, Italy) and the Green Materials Prize 2016 (Institution of Civil Engineers in London, UK).
She serves as an expert on behalf of the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), the French National Research Agency (ANR), the EU Commission, and is an Editorial Board Member of Composites Part C.
We hope you can participate in this lunch seminar, and that we can further develop our research collaboration.
We will have a hybrid seminar; in-person seminar in the meeting room Tornrummet (E8) and online via Zoom
