Students from around the world meet in Textile Production and Innovation
2026-10-22

Hampus, Daniel, and Annick come from three different countries and seem to have formed a close friendship when we meet them for an interview.
Hampus Häreblad Aronsson comes from Sweden and had already studied partly in English during upper secondary school.
“I thought this programme could be a good way of keeping up with the language as well as broadening my future possibilities. I knew that much of the textile industry is located outside Sweden and that my future job might be in other countries. I believed that studying in English with international students from all over the world would not only be good for my future career, but also very interesting in terms of how people from other countries view the textile industry. Personally, I’m really interested in culture, and studying with international students is a fun way to get to know other cultures as well!”
Annick Schiessl comes from Germany and has always dreamed of an international career.
“I chose to study Textile Production and Innovation because I've always liked textiles and I like sewing, but I'm also interested into technical applications within the textile field. I would like to work in an international environment in the future, so I thought why not then study in one as well.”
Daniel Ossi Jäppinen has travelled further for his education in Borås, all the way from New Zealand. What appealed to him was the programme’s broad introduction to the textile industry, combined with the opportunity to specialise and explore some of its newest areas. He also highlights the international value of the programme.
“I think the convergence of people from all over the world gives great chances to meet many kinds of people and gain experience working with different personalities. Building friendships with people that will be my peers in the industry from so many different places is obviously beneficial, and it's also quite fun!”
Looking ahead, the students have several ideas and dreams for their future careers.
“I'm hoping to work with smart textiles to some degree, but I’m also open to seeing where my education takes me and seeing what I'm best at and what I enjoy the most,” says Daniel.
Annick hasn't made up her mind yet but sees several options for the future.
“It feels like everything is interesting at this point, but maybe I will lean more into product development within textiles.”
Hampus explains that he served as a paramedic during his military service in Sweden, an experience that gave him new perspectives on textiles and their possible uses.
“Since then, I've had a strong interest in technical textiles related to the military, such as tents, camouflage nets, and uniforms. So, one thing I would like to work with is textiles adapted for the military. I would also like to work with smart and technical textiles in the medical field. As an athlete, I have a great interest in medical rehabilitation as well as in athletic wear. So, I'm not a hundred percent sure yet what I want to work with in the future, but my top three areas would be military textiles, medical textiles, and athletic wear.”
