Internship gave Elias valuable industry insight
Why did you choose to do an internship there?
“I've always liked outdoor and functional clothing, and Haglöfs is one of
Sweden's oldest and most well-known outdoor brands. Since the head office is in Stockholm, where I grew up, it felt natural to apply here. The combination of the company's history, values, and focus on innovation made it the perfect internship for me.”
How would you describe your internship and what tasks have you had?
“The internship has been very varied and educational. I have assisted in the creation and refinement of technical packs, updated design sketches, sewed prototypes, and provided support across multiple stages of the design and development process. I have participated in fabric and colour selection meetings, worked within the Centric PLM system, and developed a solid understanding of cross-departmental collaboration In addition, I have helped with smaller, but important tasks that have given me a broad picture of the entire development process.”
Which project or element has been most developing for you?
“The most developing thing has been to work in the PLM system and learn more
about Illustrator. Becoming confident in these tools feels especially valuable. It has also been very instructive to see how an established company works in practice and how different roles interact.”
In what way has your educational programme been useful during the internship?
“It has been an important foundation, even if my own work process is slightly different from how they work at this company. It has given me the technical and creative skills I needed to be able to quickly adapt to their working methods and tools. The programme has also made it easier for me to understand the entirety of the design and product development process, which has been a great advantage during the internship.”
What do you take with you from the internship into your future career?
“I have gained certainty about working in teams and in a design process that is
driven by common goals. I have developed many technical skills and gained a clearer understanding of how professional product development works in practice. It feels very valuable for future working life.”
What advice would you give to students who are considering an internship in fashion or textiles?
“Apply for an internship in an area you are really passionate about – then the learning will be both more fun and more meaningful. Don't be afraid to speak up and ask questions. The internship is a unique opportunity to grow and develop, so take advantage of it.”
