Transforming the textile industry with sustainable fibers and AI tools

Moving beyond fossil-based materials

Transforming the textile industry with sustainable fibers and AI tools

Main Goals

  • Develop new sustainable fiber sources: Transforming bio-based residual streams (e.g., agricultural waste such as hemp) into high-quality textile fibers.
  • Integrate AI and data-driven technologies: Using AI to improve recycling efficiency, optimize fiber separation, and predict textile properties, enabling smarter, more sustainable production.
  • Advance textile education: Incorporating AI and digitalization into textile engineering curricula, strengthening interdisciplinary research, and preparing future professionals for a circular textile economy.

The project aims to establishment of interdisciplinary research combining textile technology, sustainability, and artificial intelligence in close collaboration with the textile industry and national/international partners.

Impact goals

Supports Sweden’s climate targets by reducing CO2 emissions from the textile sector.

Fosters innovation and competitiveness in the Swedish and European textile industries.

Strengthens the University of Borås’ leadership in sustainable textiles and digital transformation.
