Call for Abstracts – SOLWE 2026

The SOLWE 2026 conference welcomes researchers, practitioners, educators, doctoral students, policymakers, service users and representatives from civil society and community organisations to submit abstracts for oral or poster presentations.

Conference theme

The theme of SOLWE 2026, Co-Creating Social Innovations in Times of Crisis and Disaster: Leading and Organising Social Work of the Future, explores how social work can respond to crises and societal challenges through collaboration, innovation and resilience.

The conference brings together researchers, practitioners, policymakers, service users and partner organisations to discuss how co-creation can generate sustainable solutions that strengthen communities and support individuals affected by crises and disasters. It also focuses on the leadership, organisational capacity and interdisciplinary collaboration needed to shape the future of social work in an increasingly complex and uncertain world.

Conference sub-themes

1. Preparedness

  • Crisis and disaster preparedness
  • Community-based crisis and disaster risk reduction
  • Education and training in crisis and disaster management
  • Interorganisational and multiprofessional collaboration between social work and other disaster management organisations
  • Organisational capacity for innovation and permeability

2. Response

  • Management and organisation of social work in crises and disasters
  • Support provided to service users during disasters
  • Self-care for social workers, including collegial support, compassionate leadership, defusing and debriefing
  • Social innovations and solutions in crisis and disaster management

3. Recovery

  • Post-disaster relief and recovery initiatives that protect and support individuals and communities, including access to resources, emergency shelters, secure housing and the re-establishment of social networks
  • Long-term support for disaster-affected communities during the reconstruction phase

Guidelines for Abstract Submission

Submitted abstracts should address the conference theme and be clearly linked to one of the conference sub-themes. Authors are asked to indicate the sub-theme most relevant to their submission.

Please include the following information:

  • Contact e-mail
  • Full names of all authors
  • Organisation
  • Title of the presentation
  • Selected conference sub-theme

The abstract should be structured under the following headings:

  • Introduction
  • Method
  • Results
  • Conclusion

Maximum length: 500 words.

  • Submission deadline: 15 October 2026
  • Notification of acceptance: 29 October 2026
  • Registration deadline: 20 November 2026
  • Conference dates: 7–8 December 2026
