I work as a senior professor within the field of educational research, in which I focus upon pupils’ understanding of graphical representations, for example, graphs, charts and diagrams as well as of explanatory illustrations in primary-school teaching and learning. An additional research interest concerns dimensionality of large-scale tests.
I was employed by the University of Borås in 2009. In the late 1990s, I took my PhD degree at the University of Gothenburg, whereupon I worked there as a senior lecturer, associate professor and later as a professor, until I took up a professorship at Mid Sweden University.
I run the research project Illustrations making meaning? Young pupils encountering explanatory pictures and models in science and mathematics education in primary school and pre-school financed by the Swedish Research Council. My doctoral dissertation is titled Entering a graphicate society: Young children learning graphs and charts.
