Sideline activities

Why should I report a sideline activity?

As the university is a public authority and we work for the public, it is required that we can carry out our work in a fair and legally certain way as well as objectively. Therefore, employees at the university must not have any occupation or activity in addition to university work that could damage the authority or the public's trust in us.

Take a look at the Sideline Activities Rules at the Universitiy of Borås, valid from 1 December 2019 (pdf).

Especially for teachers/researchers

As a teacher/researcher, you have an increased scope for permitted sideline activities in the form of subject-related sideline activities or so-called R&D sideline activities.

Unauthorised sideline activities

A sideline activity must not be detrimental to trust, hinder work, or in competition with the university. It is also not permitted to use the university's computers, telephones, and the like to carry out a sideline activity.

Registration of sideline activities

In Primula, you indicate whether or not you have a sideline activity. If you have a sideline activity, you must describe it in such detail that your immediate manager can decide whether it is approved or not. Registration must be made every year no later than 31 January. Any additional later sideline activity is to be registered continuously over the course of the year.
