SAR consists of 500 universities in 42 countries over the world, protecting around a hundred researchers at risk annually. The University of Borås is a member of SAR and received its first researcher at risk in 2016.

Recent events

Threats on academic freedom and human rights are reported all over the world. Below, two recent events are listed, which does not exclude the need of protection elsewhere.

Ukraine

The invasion of Ukraine raises a lot of concern. For questions from threatened researchers in need of protection, please refer to the contact person at the University of Borås for a comprehensive answer with information as to how to proceed. For researchers in need of a sanctuary whom are already in Sweden, please contact the SAR representative at the university for further guidance.

Several initiatives have been launched to make it possible to fund scholars from Ukraine

Afghanistan

On the initiative of the SAR-Sweden network, the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) has granted funding for a national support program for researchers from Afghanistan 2022-2024. 70% of the costs related to hosting a scholar from Afghanistan up to two years are covered for by Sida.
