• RESCUE: Save yourself and help others who are in obvious danger. If the room is filled with smoke, crawl along the floor. Never walk through the smoke!
• WARN: Warn your colleagues and others. Maybe someone is wearing headphones or on the phone? Help them and warn them!
• ALARM: Call 112. State who you are, what happened and where the fire is. Or press the alarm button for an automatic fire alarm.
• EXTINGUISH: If you will not put yourself at risk by doing so, you can start putting out the fire. The evacuation plan indicates the location of fire-fighting equipment.
• EVACUATE: Always take the nearest escape route out. Follow the green signs. Always take the stairs; never use the lift! If you see smoke, turn around and take another way out. Go to the assembly point closest to you.
• Wheelchair users: If the alarm sounds, those in wheelchairs should have some go with them to a fire cell that is not being evacuated. Someone should stay with the person and the emergency services should be informed that there are wheelchair users in another room who need to be helped out if those rooms are also to be evacuated.
• When the situation allows, raise the alarm via the university's emergency number 033-435 44 00. 033-435 44 00.

Study the evacuation plan

Evacuation plans are available in all buildings on all floors. Usually they can be found in the stairwells. The evacuation plans contain important information. They show:

• Escape routes and emergency exits
• Where firefighting equipment can be found
• Where assembly points are

• An automatic fire alarm is installed and is linked directly to the emergency services. The fire alarm is activated by smoke detectors. 
• If the fire alarm sounds, always evacuate the premises! Go to the assembly point (even if the alarm does not sound in the whole building) and find those who were in the same room as you when the alarm went off. Is everyone at the assembly point? If you think someone is still in the premises, notify the evacuation leader or emergency services.
• During classes and exams, the teacher or examination supervisor are responsible for and initiate evacuation. The teacher is also responsible for ensuring that the classroom is empty.
