Data breach in Canvas
Update 12 May: The university has received information that the provider of Canvas has reached a settlement with the threat actor. According to the provider, the agreement means that the threat actor has deleted the data it had obtained. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
From 13 May, the university will begin restarting all integrations to and from Canvas.
Update 13 May: Most of the integrations that were disabled during the data breach in Canvas are now back up and running.
Background on what happened
The supplier of the university's learning platform Canvas has informed that Canvas has been exposed to a data breach by a criminal threat actor.
According to the information the university currently has, it may be that the actor has accessed data such as names, email addresses, messages between users, student-id, course names and course registrations. An investigation is underway together with external security experts.
