Flip the Gold is inspired by my family’s tradition of collecting coins, particularly Latvian commemorative gold coins, which are rich in value, symbolism, and storytelling.

Drawing from three selected coin narratives, I developed woven tapestries that interwine personal memories, Latvian mythological symbols, and imagined storylines, transforming small metal objects into immersive textile experiences.

Alongside these narratives, the project explores the expressive potential of gold within textiles through woven Lurex yarns and hand-applied gold leaf. The reflective surfaces interact constantly with light, causing the tapestries to shift in depth, atmosphere, and visibility throughout the day. Together, the works create layered compositions where storytelling, material, and light become inseparable - allowing the tapestries to feel alive through their changing surfaces and deeply emotional narratives.
