Prototypes for both business and research are produced in the lab, usually to evaluate technical solutions and to visualise products and concepts. The prototypes are then used to validate fit and function against a target group.

All students in the Bachelor’s programmes at the Swedish School of Textiles have laboratory sessions in the Garment Technology Lab.  At the Master’s level, design students use the lab to develop textile concepts. Through practical work and an understanding of production, students gain significant insight into the challenges that the industry faces within sustainable development.

Several different research projects take advantage of the expertise and equipment found in the Garment Technology Lab, including when it comes to integrating smart textiles into advanced garments.

The lab includes, among other things:

• Tape machine

• Double fold seam
• Flatlock
• Double lock stitch
