The purpose of the national research study is to establish research-based knowledge about the prevalence and consequences of gender-based vulnerability and sexual harassment in academia among both students and employees. This will be the first study of its kind in Sweden.

During week 17, the survey will be sent to a random sample of students, doctoral students, and employees at the country's colleges and universities. The group of employees includes both teaching and administrative staff.

In the autumn of 2021, each university will be able to order a result of the survey at the university level. A report for the entire sector is expected to be presented in March 2022.

Zero tolerance at the University of Borås

At the University of Borås, there is zero tolerance for discrimination, harassment, and abusive behaviour.

“It is very positive that we are now conducting this important study and I want to encourage all students who are selected to fill in the survey. The higher the quality of the survey, the greater its impact will be, and the better material we will have to work with,” said Mats Tinnsten, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Borås.

If you feel that you have been a victim of something, contact an employee at the university, the Student Ombudsman, Student Health Care, or any other person you trust.”

The study is part of the research and collaboration programme run by the Karolinska Institute, Malmö University, and the Swedish Secretariat for Gender Research at the University of Gothenburg. The survey is being conducted in collaboration with Statistics Sweden, which is responsible for sending and collecting data.
